Managing Teething Pain

How to relieve teething discomfort

When you see signs of a teething baby, knowing how to help relieve any discomfort can help make it less stressful for you and your baby. Remember that different comforts help different babies, and –  through trial and error – you can find what works for your baby.

Some things to try include:

Teething gel

Teething gels, such as Bonjela, can be massaged into the gums with a clean finger to provide fast-acting and pain relief. Be sure to check the dosage instructions and expiry date.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Incorrect use may be harmful.

Infant medicine (analgesics):

Nurofen for Children Baby (contains Ibuprofen) can be used for babies who are three months (6kg and up) or more to help relieve the pain associated with teething and bring down a raised temperature. However, if a raised temperature persists visit a health care professional so that other possible causes can be excluded.
